Re: Small Air Purifier for Bedroom

Hi Ed,

Thank you very much for your helpful webpage.

For allergic reasons, I am looking for an fairly effective unit - price is not so much an issue but size is (I move a lot and usually have small rooms).

Based on the positive reviews, the IQAir or BlueAir would have been my first choices, but they are way too large.

What would you recommend; is there anything decent on the market around shoe box size, or does power always come with size?

Hey Reader;

For starters, effective small air cleaner is an oxymoron - the two concepts are incompatible. There are many little air cleaners, but they are mostly targeted at discount department store buyers looking for the illusion of low price.

Another group consists of bookshelf photocatalytics and ozonators, which have performance and sometimes safety issues.

Buyers will find inventory thin and support thinner for the higher quality "small" air cleaners, they do not carry the margins or sales volume today's stressed retailers require.

This has produced several successful products targeted at greenstyle (price-premium-style-over-substance) customers.

So "shoe-box sized" is pushing the envelope, but there are some candidates, just realize that the cleaned area is going to be very small.

Of course, these should be installed in the bedroom, as they cannot clean an entire apartment, no matter how compact.

Amaircare's Roomaid Portable Air Purifier is truly small, a cylinder measuring just 8 inches in diameter. Roomaid is still selling well enough to be carried by several vendors, but is "currently unavailable" at Amazon.com, see my review;

Stylish but a bit weak, I'd call the the Tiger air purifier small;
