Re: PureHeat+: heater/air purifier/humidifier
A Reader writes: Just purchased the pureHeat+ heater/air purifier/humidifier with PCO air purification technology and was wondering if you had any thoughts on this model. PCO tech seems to be pretty new and I'm not familiar with it. I can't find any specs on ozone output for this model. I have fairly large, open rooms with high ceilings and don't how any ozone output would be affected by this. The unit on a whole seems to work rather well and I only plan to run it during the winter months, mainly for heat purposes, but I liked the idea of a heater/air-purifier/humidifier all rolled into one. I would like to get a Rabbit Air purifier for year-round use. Thank You for your time, A Reader.

Hey Reader; For an overview of the photocatalytic air cleaning process see my article: Photocat air cleaner PureHeat+ is marketed by: GreenTech Environmental 6124 Kingsport Hwy, Ste 1; Gray, TN 37615 www.GreenTechEnv.com GreenTech sells products that bear a strong resemblance to the former Ecoquest line and also competes with EdenPure in the space heater market. They are located in east Tennessee close to Ecoquest's old HQ. The pureHeat+ looks very similar to EcoQuest's SafeHearth heater/purifier. It may even use the same or similar PCO cell, (Ecoquest's ActivePure technology). My general (very negative) opinion of the (former) Ecoquest and Edenpure products can be gleaned from these reviews; Edenpure air cleaner Ecoquest air cleaner My problem with the jack-of-all-trades marketing is that, at least as an air purifier, pureheat+ is not much. It does have a variable speed fan to pull air through the rear washable prefilter. There is no microparticle filtration, no HEPA filter. PCO/UV will kill microorganisms, but can destroy only the smallest particulate, allowing mid sized particles through. The $80 PCO Cell is projected to last 10,000 hours, just over a year. The "high power" UV bulb does not have a wattage specification, but I am very skeptical about the strength of this installation. Good UV starts around 20 watts. While many similar products are ozone generators in disguise, the pureHeat+ does not appear to be an ozone emitter. Partially oxidized byproducts are possible with a poorly designed PCO setup, and are probably the larger risk with the pureHeat+. Be sure to clean the prefilter often, I have seen many user reviews which expressed consternation when the heater stops. These units shut down when the screen is dirty enough to reduce airflow, a legitimate safety feature. Pureheat+ is advertised with the slogan "3 Appliances in One Create Unmistakable Value." At a price pushing $400, you could get a real air purifier and 3 1500 watt space heaters to boot. Will look forward to hearing how you feel about this product in about 18 months. The Rabbit Air is a much better choice as an air purifier. Best wishes, Ed
