Aireox D22 Portable Air Purifiers
D-22 Portable Air Purifiers $209.00 to $245.95
Replacement Filter $61.95 Aireox D22 portables are real car and travel air purifiers. With 2 pounds of carbon/purifil to remove airborne VOC gases (diesel fumes, car plastic vapor) and odors, and with particle filtration to .5 microns, this compact air purification system gets the pollutant removal job done on the road. Portable Air Purifier |
The D22 portable air purifiers have an unusual combined filter media; potassium permanganate oxidizer, found mostly in top quality purifiers. This expensive material is combined with activated carbon to make "purafil." Filters are sealed and gasketed for high efficiency, a sign of quality but less important than high purification throughput in air purifiers designed for auto and portable applications. Note that .5 micron is larger than room air filter HEPA standards, but the reality of rapid particle reintroduction in automotive interiors makes this a moot point. It is extremely difficult for purifiers to keep an auto's interior air quality clean enough to be concerned with particles below a half micron, despite their danger. Pollen and some other allergens are above this size, but diesel and catalytic converter soot are smaller. To back up the air filtration capability, one of the strongest fans you'll find in automobile purifiers: it moves 75 cubic feet of air per minute. For the hotel room environment, the strong air movement is important: you rarely stay long before the first night's rest. There isn't time for a weaker portable air purifier to slowly remove airborne particulates, smoke, dust, and mold. The company builds to zero-outgas MCS standards, but in a vehicle this is less important in comparison to outgassing from the plastic, paint, and glues from the vehicle interior. An internally sealed motor provides 2-speed air purification much quieter than a typical car interior on the highway[75 dB(A)]. Made of metal with baked enamel finish using non-toxic zero outgasing paint, the mobile D22 measures 6 inches high by 10 inces in diameter. The little air purifiers are not small enough to stash behind seats, but sized right for an auto's center armrests. Power consumtion in these little portables is 2 amps, low enough not to drain a modern car battery if the air purifier is left on overnight. Aireox D-22 plugs into automotive 12 volt power outlets (cigarette lighters), found in cars, trucks, boats, and RVs. A 120 volt AC converter is available for travel use. Combined filter cartridges (HEPA and cabon) are projected to last one year under normal conditions. At that rate it would take over three years to equal the initial purchase price: above average. The motor carries a 5-year warranty with 1-year on the switch. Aireox Research, of Riverside, California, has been around since the 1970's, and was among the first to recognize the need for real VOC capability. Air-Purifier-Power Rating Criteria Each of ten factors gets up to 10 points, 100 is perfect and very unlikely. 1. First do no harm; minimal out gassing, no ozone. Score: 10 of 10. 2. Serious gas and odor removal is a requirement if health benefits are expected: Units with real carbon VOC capability rank higher. Score: 9 of 10 3. Quality construction; case, gaskets, seals, and precision fitting eliminate bypassing and assure high efficiency at filtering sub-micron particles. Score: 6 of 10, tight build, loose filters. 4. The design maximizes the lifespan of each filter stage by allowing independent replacement of filters. Ideally this is combined with electronic monitoring of filters. Score: 5 of 10, combined filters, no monitor. 5. Air purifiers have long filter life, low maintenance requirements, and reasonable operating costs. Score: 6 of 10, 6. Purifiers produce low noise levels and meaningful air flow rates relative to noise. Score: 8 of 10, quiet reputation, no data. 7. Manufacturer has a track record, with many air purifying machines in the field and a reputation for supporting what they sell. Warranty period on air purifiers and average service life are long. Score: 7 of 10, 5-year warranty on motor. 8. Air purifiers are a value in terms of price/performance ratio. Every price range should be included, “models above $1,200 are best”, while true, is not useful to most consumers. Score: 8 of 10, good little VOC filters for the car, office, or hotel. 9. No dirt; Air purifiers and manufacturer should be devoid of class-action suits, high returns, recalls, consumer complaints, and legitimate negative consumer reviews. Score: 8 of 10, old company-no dirt. 10. Air purifier is stylish, portable, comfortable, and convenient for consumer use.
