JWR Exotic Bird Air Systems

I came across your website while shopping for air purifiers for myself and my pet parrot.

I was extremely impressed by the depth and breadth of your reviews and have passed your URL on to other bird lovers. I have no doubt this information will help save lives.

Birds have very high lung capacity and efficiency relative to their body weight and are prone to respiratory infections, which can be fatal.

They also produce lots of dust, so many responsible parrot owners invest in an air purifier for our birds' health and our own.

Unfortunately, a lot of us buy the crappy ones, either because we don't know any better or because we can only afford cheap ones.

Your review of the poor little Holmes HAP242 gave me a good laugh. I own one of those! Fortunately I'll be getting a much better unit soon, well armed with information from your site.

By the way, there is an air purifier on the market which is supposedly the only one "designed specifically for birds". It's called the JWR Exotic Bird Air System.

It has some good-sounding but hardly unique features: washable pre-filter, AEGIS anti-bacterial filter, carbon filter, UV light. The type of UV is not specified, nor is the airflow measured.

Google only found one online retailer selling it (for $498) other than the maker himself, which is probably not a good sign.

He is an advertiser and frequently quoted "expert" in Bird Talk magazine and they gave his product a positive review.

I'm curious to know what you make of it, though my gut feeling is "avoid due to insufficient information".
