Cheaper units allow increased bypassing as the filter ages. Fine particles coat the inefficient air purifiers' exhaust passage surfaces, making the unit itself a repository of the finest lung penetrators!

After about a year, stand back when you turn them on. So how is this inexpensive? A major purpose of this website is to fully document the bypassing process.

HealthPro Plus is constructed of fully cured, high-grade ABS/Polycarbonate 1/8 inch thick plastic. IQAirs are built without heavy metals (mercury, lead, nickel found in some paints). The motor is buried inside the stack, before the carbon and HEPA filters, to avoid any passing of vapors.

Electronic Controls

Comprehensive controls include a 24/7 programmable timer, LCD/LED interface, filter monitoring, and remote. A countdown timer operates the air purifier for up to 72 hours before shut down. The remote changes fan speed, starts the timer and turn the unit on or off. A 2 line, 32 character LCD display provides complete information. Speed setting, air delivery rate, automatic timer, and remaining filter life are displayed in US or metric format. English, French, German, Italian and Spanish: parlez-vous whatever.

With a no-load rated air flow of 700 cubic feet per minute (CFM), the Plus can push 240 cfm through the filter stack. My IQAir air purifier certificate of performance lists top tested cfm at 236. Notice the degree of restriction: other air purifiers might be pushing 400 cfm with a 700 fan, through a looser filter. The HealthPro Plus is rated for rooms to 1000 square feet, but my caution on these numbers applies here as well. I put Big John in my 150 square foot bedroom and shut the door.

A 6 speed fan control allows selection of an appropriate performance to noise ratio. Here is the first vulnerability I have found: noise levels are a little high (72dBa on high) for sleeping on the top 3 speeds. “Gear 1” is so quiet my wife never knows if the IQAir purifier is running at night. I will trick her by hogging the remote and shifting gears: how much more fun could a country boy want?

Maintenance-free steel ball bearings assure long life.

Big John is bigger than most air purifiers, standing 28” high on a 15” x 16” base. He is more like a piece of furniture than an appliance. With competing units putting on weight, the HealthPro Plus is “kinda narrow at the hip,” weighing a slim 35 pounds.

4 casters allow movement, but often the IQAir purifier must be hefted and dragged from room to room. These plastic wheels are my one area of dissatisfaction.

I dislike having to reset the clock after unplugging, but this applies only if one uses the timer.

One thing I hate is appliances sold with teeny short little cords which require an extension cord to be used. This air purifier has about eight feet of power cord.

With air intake at the bottom and discharge at the top through a 320 degree opening, IQAir purifier achieves substantial circulation without drafts.

Warranty is 5 years and excludes filters.
