RE: Ionizer Recommendation/Edenpure Ozone A Reader writes: Love your site!! Going for an IQAir HealthPro Plus (trying to find one used, its all I can afford). Per your recommendation, I want to complement it with ozone free negative ion function. What device do you recommend for that? I don't need an air purifier, just the ion generation. The Sharp unit you mentioned looks overkill because it's also a HEPA filter which I presume you wouldn't need once you have the IQAir. I have an Edenpure Air Purifier Area Model - http://www.biotechresearch.com/edenpure-area-air-purifier but it generates ozone! Should I get rid of it? Or just turn the ozone feature off and keep using it? Not sure if it does ion generation. Sincerely, An air-purifier-power Reader
Ed's ReplyHey Reader; I have three IG-133A room ionizers from negativeiongenerators.com - these are better quality ionizers. The optional carbon fiber emitter is $30 if I remember, but nice. The key component to any ion device is the emitter. Quartz and carbon fiber brushes are preferred to metal wires. Wires, which are subject to slow erosion and tip deformation, can be made of expensive platinum or less costly metals. Edenpure Air Purifier Area Model is a notorious ozone offender. But the main threat of ozone is to the naive. Ozone has its uses for the careful and aware, like removing mold, odors and chemicals. No need to throw away the Edenpure. Just run ozone mode ONLY when you and pets are away for at least several hours, then air out fully on return. Good Luck, Ed
