Allerair air purifiers are offered by many Amazon.com sellers, but I could find no customer reviews.

Two Epinions.com reviews are brief 5-star accolades.

This is a fairly low sales volume premium line with a modest number of internet searches by customers.

Allerair Gas/Odor Removal, Big HEPA

Allerair air purifiers employ a series of independently replaceable filters; an 18 lb mass activated carbon bed (MAC-B) VOC filter, a 66 square foot true HEPA filter, a vacuumable pre-filter, and 2 anti-microbial filters.

Aller-airs have a blanket wrap prefilter which captures large airborne impurities; hair, insects, leaf fragments, and larger dust.

I like the Allerair's fairly large 18 pounds of VOC carbon.

Aller-air claims the ability to clean airborne chemicals; reduce cigarette smoke, mold toxins, paint fumes, cleaners, solvents, glue vapors, and outgassed odors from carpet, furniture, and plastic.

AllerAir's activated carbon is high quality, from coconut shell.

However, consumers should not rely on an air purifier, Allerair or otherwise, as their only defense against these kinds of airborne immune-impairing, allergy-provoking, toxins. These sources should be removed, before installing any air purifier.

Allerair's 66 sq. ft. medical grade HEPA air filter, warm rolled to prevent cracking at folds, removes 99.97% of airborne particles as small as .3 micron. This includes pollens, dust, dander and other asthma and allergy triggers.

AllerAir Air Filter Intervals: Long Ago in a Galaxy Far Away

Allerair says their cylindrical shape maximizes airflow through their air purifier, while casters provide for easy maneuverability.

But it reminds me of "R2D2" the cute runaway robot in Star Wars.

Air filter replacement intervals are above average, but maintenance costs are higher than Aller-airs nearest competitor, Austinair.

I would lean to the short side on replacement intervals, because the AllerAir purifiers lack electronic airfilter monitoring.

Replacement air filters are fairly priced.

But I calculate a .60maintenance to purchase ratio.

This means filters, using the manufacturer's suggestyed intervals minus a 1/3 fudge factor, will equal the purchase price of the air purifier in less than two years.

Assuming 4 prefilters annually, HEPA every 3 years, carbon at 20 months, and microbial filters annually, I get about $260 for yearly filter maintenance.

I would vacuum the prefilters carefully to extend their life, and replace the antimicrobials only if there was a mold or airborne microorganism threat.

Smoking, toxic, moldy, or damp environments will have much higher filter costs.

Allerair is a quality air purifying machine with medium overall cost of ownership, priced close to or below popular non-aircleaners Ionic Breeze, Oreck, and Ecoquest.

Filter replacement requires removal of the bottom plate by loosening 4 screws. Ads claim the prefilter can be replaced in 10 seconds after vacuuming.

Airflow Claims

The 400 cubic feet per minute (CFM) airflow fan is average powered for purifiers of this type, and is shared by many airpurifiers in theAllerAir air cleaner line.

Aller-airs uniform product architecture means parts and filters won't dry up, as is common with one of a kind models.

Unfortunately, the builder has quoted their fan's airmotive power without filters installed (freeflow).

Allerair did not participate in CADR tests.

I think their 1500 square foot maximum recommended room size is too big. There is detailed info on room size inflation and air changes per hour under the BuyerBeware navbar.

As quoted at Allergybuyersclub.com, the 5000 Exec air purifier can produce 6 air changes per hour in 500 sq. ft. rooms.

I suggest installing it in a room with half that much airspace, about 300 square feet with 8 foot ceilings.

Three manually controlled fan speeds have borderline loud noise levels; low 35 dB, high 55 dB, turbo 65 dB(A). The low speed is too loud for sensitive sleepers, but most users like the white noise.

Top two speeds pretty loud for bedroom use.

The 35 dB(A) on low is questionable for bedroom use.

Room air is drawn though the bottom of the Allerair air cleaner and exhausted through a single vent at the top.

I prefer air purifiers which exhaust all around the perimeter for fewer drafts while sleeping.

With 80 watts typical power consumption, the AllerAir 5000 is mid-range in electricity cost. Usage is 95 watts at maximum speed.

The Aller-air is not EPA Energy Star rated.

At 44 pounds, the all metal (22 Gauge cold roll steel) air purifier is very heavy to move for the elderly or infirm. Forget moving this thing upstairs.

Four casters on a 15” by 20” cylinder allow movement where stairs or thick carpet are not involved.

The baked on enamel finish is available in sandstone, pewter, white, and black.

Unvarnished motor windings combine with zero ozone to produce negligible out gassing.

The warranty is 5 years on cabinet housing and fan blower motor and 2 years on electrical; including ballast, switches, and speed control.

AllerAir Industries was founded after President Sam Teitelbaum’s wife developed Multiple Chemical Sensitivity (MCS). The AllerAir line has now includes over 100 air purifying models.

There is little price flexibility on this quality unit. Be sure you are not buying copycat made-in-china knockoffs, refurbished, returned, or opened packaging "Allerair Air Purifier" units.

Not cheap, but very good value.

I prefer automated air purifying equipment, with environmental quality monitoring, filter pressure sensors, and remote controls.

Allerair provides no frills carbon VOC instead.
